Double Role Experience by Thailand Working Wives

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe Thailand working wives` experience from the double role.

Method: Focus group discussion was utilized to conduct a grounded theory to discover if there was stress, coping and perception associated with Thailand working wives. Researchers led one focus group discussion (six subjects). Age of the Wives were between 25-55 years old. Wives worked outside for at least twenty hours per week or more and wives resided with their husbands.

Results: The results of this study were as follows; a) Maintaining traditional gender role concept in their relationships, b) Receiving extra stress from husband`s fidelity problem, c) Lack of family support for household tasks and child care, d) Facing communication difficulty in their family relationship, e) Doing alone even in unfair condition, f) Asking for and receiving help from the family member`s with household tasks and child care, and g) Feeling stress due to double role and satisfaction from their employment. The outcome of this study can be applied as grounded work for nursing intervention, it can help understand a married working women`s stress, coping and perception of the multiple roles which improve women`s quality of life.
